St Patricius of Britain

Today is a Solemnity in Australia (and many other places), the feast of St Patricius.

St Patricius, who died around 493, was born in Roman Britain, probably in what is now Cumbria.

Captured at the age of sixteen he was taken to a foreign land where he was forced to work as a herdsman.

After six years he managed to escape and return home.

He then travelled to Europe and became a priest, returning to Britain under St Germain as part of a mission to counter the erroneous teachings of Pelagius.  He was then sent on mission to the land of his slavery, and the rest is history....
