News round-up

Just a few snippets from round the place that I thought you might be interested in.

The Brissie Buddha has gone!

I don't know whether it was the influence of the Juventutem pilgrims pictured below or not (from the FSSP website) but readers will certainly be pleased to learn that the Buddha previously resident in St Mary's, Brisbane (see my earlier post) has gone.

Into the Deep reports that a parishioner (perhaps inspired by one of my commenters?) apparently took direct action and destroyed the thing. One can only applaud.

Summer (oops I mean winter) holiday season

The usual liturgical low season (relatively speaking) holiday shuffle is currently underway , with:

  • Fr McDaniels (Melbourne) currently on holiday;
  • Fr McCaffrey (Parramatta) currently on holiday - Fr Rizzo filled in for him for a week with Fr Define (pictured below, left, at the Fraternity's Vocation Expo stall) taking the opportunity to visit the Christchurch apostolate; and
  • Fr Webb (Canberra) heads off on August 17, with Fr Define filling in for him.
Blessed Mary McKillop Pilgrimage

Fr Michael Rowe of Perth led a pilgrimage to Penola, SA, for the feast of Blessed Mary McKillop. You can read a little about over at Psallite Sapienter. Next year is the 100th anniversary of Blessed Mary of the Cross's death, so a somewhat extended pilgrimage is planned in order to take in some of the more secular pilgrimage sites in the vicinity (Penola is conveniently located adjacent to the Coonawarra wine region). I do hope it will be widely publicized so as to allow some of us Eastern Staters to join the party!

FSSP main website updated

The FSSP's international website now has a selection of WYD photos up - I've included a selection of them here, including this piccie below of the Lewisham FSSP anniversary Mass.
