Wednesday of Whit Embertide - on fasting

The idea of emberdays that are first class feasts always confuses me, but they are strewn throughout the calendar!

The excellent Fisheaters site has a nice write up on the emberdays of Pentecost (Whitsuntide), although of course pointing to its Northern Hemisphere links to preparation for the harvest:

The mass readings make the link between the physical and spiritual harvest, particularly through the Gospel in which Our Lord says, 'I am the bread of life...'

In any case, this is a day particularly appropriate to fast and pray for those about to be ordained to the diaconate and priesthood for the FSSP, and for Sr Frances, about to make her solemn profession as a Carmelite.
