FSSP in New Zealand: Fr Rizzo moves to the Land of the Long White Cloud

The Maternal Heart of Mary website (though not any of the FSSP ones as far as I can find) has an announcement that Fr John Rizzo has been appointed to begin the first FSSP apostolate in New Zealand.

He will offer daily mass at Christchurch Cathedral, one of Australasia's most splendid churches architecturally - it is Roman renaissance in style, complete with domes and lots and lots of marble. You can see more pictures of it here:

The diocese of Christchurch has a very strong liturgical tradition. They've had regular orchestral sung (novus ordo) masses for many years now, and the choir seems very active with a wide repertoire indeed:

They've also had a weekly TLM for over twenty years now, and so this is a logical step, particularly given that a New Zealander, Mr Antony Sumich, was ordained a deacon for the FSSP back in March.

You can read more on local reactions to the move here:

So please pray for Fr Rizzo and our New Zealand confreres!
