The stories Cath News hasn't run this week...

Readers have drawn my attention to a few stories Cath News hasn't run this week, that you might be interested in:
  • Surprise, surprise, children brought up by same sex 'parents' do not do as well as those in a traditional family;
  • the Australian opinion piece about Peter Singer's gong for advocacy of infanticide (it is behind the paywall, so google if you want to read it and don't have a subscription);
  • on the list of (recently) deposed bishops and their fate by Sandro Magister (Australian mentions include including +Malone, +Morris, +Power; missing from the list, +Toohey).
And one that may have missed their deadline, death of philosopher ABC radio host Alan Saunders.  RIP.

By way of weekend reading, you might want to take a look at Sydney christian responses to the gay marriage push, with co-ordinated pastoral  letters from Catholic, Anglican and Greek Orthodox leaders (and of course the standard message of dissent from ex-Premier Kristina Keneally).

Never mind cathnews - what happened to your series on the Dioceses in Australia? New series have started up, and this has been left behind for months now. It would be nice to complete it as I've enjoyed it so far.

One story that I haven't seen them cover is the ham fisted attempt by the Jesuit General to influence the Pope regarding the Vatican curia and the Church hierarchy in general. It seems the generous donors to the Jesuits, the rich Brenninkmeijers (Dutch), were not happy with the lack of 'spirit of Vatican II'.
This to me is a real scandal of money and power trying to influence the Church. If anyone else were involved, then Cathnews would be all over it. But given Cathnews is really under the control of the Jesuits by influence (not talking about the laughable direct control of the ACBC), as can be seen by the background of most of the people involved, nothing bad can be said about the Jesuits!!

As a footnote on Keneally, her ALP predecessor in her seat - a much better Catholic - was driven out of politics by the gay lobby for, shock-horror, outing some of the 99.6% of paedophilia not committed by the clergy. The fact that she was completely right (e.g. the meat-market for boys at The Wall which a judge used to frequent) only compounded her offence. So KK is partly acting out of trendy muddle-headedness, but is probably also looking to protect her hide. Compare her briliant contribution tot he carbon tax debate: 'it may be good policy but it's bad politics'.

May I suggest you do the same thing every week. The worst problem with CathNews is not the distorted presentation of stories and the excessive and approving coverage of those promoting heetrodosy, but the stories that they don't cover at all and cause people to be completely ignorant about despite being lulled into thinking that they have kept up wilh all the important Catholic news for the week.
