Another reason why IVF has to go....

Thanks to Canberra Observer, who tipped me off to this ghastly story:  a Melbourne couple aborted twin boys conceived under IVF because they only want a girl.

And they are appealing a decision prohibiting sex selection via IVF.

Their reasons?  According to the media report:

"The couple, who have three sons and still grieve for a daughter they lost soon after birth, are going to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal to win the right to select sex by IVF treatment.

They say they want the opportunity to have the baby daughter they were tragically denied."

Frankly, it sounds on the face of it that they need psychological help, not a 'replacement' baby girl to foster the illusion that we can control every aspects of our lives.  And the abortion issue aside, how must the other children feel?  Children are not commodities...

And who will sit on this tribunal? Not a judge with years of experience and training I'll bet. Probably some trendy bureaucrats who think they know about ethics.

Dear Lord, save us from ourselves.

I agree, Terra, this misguided couple obviously need good psychological care. And imagine being the child who was simply a replacement for another child. Almost as bad as a child "conceived" to provide for medical procedures for another child.
