Foreign abortion funding ban overturned...

Cath News reports that Australia's ban on funding of abortion under the guise of foreign 'aid' has now been overturned.

Seems our tried and tired non-policy of doing whatever the US does remains in place, no matter who is in Government - on either side of the Ocean. Which is rather unfortunate given the directions President Obama is adopting.

Disappointing news indeed.

PS There is a reader poll on this at The Age which is currently running very much the wrong way 83% in favour of lifting the ban - do go and help balance the vote.

The voting has improved slightly, 19% against, 81% for.

This is a sad, sad day worldwide, with the most innocent and vulnerable being attacked from every side. Obama is permitting goverment funding of destructive embryonic stem cell research and the Rudd goverment is permitting the use of Australian money to kill more children.

They have bought the line that "family planning" and abortion somehow equate to reproductive "health". How can any reasonable person believe anything as destructive as both contraceptives and abortion can be *healthy*.

The Catholic Church in the Philippines is also fighting this battle, with the "Reproductive and Maternal Health Bill" due to be debated next month. Please pray that this bill will not be passed

You're not another Louise in Adelaide by any chance are you?

And yes, a very sad day.

Why do I feel perpetually stuck defending Helms Deep?

Does anyone know, is the Govt giving extra money to the third world countries for the abortions or are they giving the same amount and taking away some service these countries already have?

How sick if these people are not going to have enough to eat and drink but will have abortions on demand.

So, you're another another Louise!

Good Lord, Therese! Were you under the impression that The Ideologues actually want to help people?

Hmm the poll ended 82:18. I'm beginning to wonder if most of my readers are really acatholicas!

And where is/how is Adelaide Louise? I suddenly realized I didn't see her when I visited at Christmas time!

Yes in fairness I put the post up fairly late in the day so many may have missed it before it closed!

A disappoinitng result though (or maybe just a commentary on the nature of Age online readers!).
