Vestments update

Andrew Rabel of Inside the Vatican reports on the reportedly excellent Mass dedicating the new altar at St Mary's Cathedral (I haven't had a chance to watch the recording yet, but one of my TLM friends said he was almost converted - all they need to do is get rid of that pesky sign of peace....) that:

"The beautiful vestments Pope Benedict wore on this occasion were designed by Mr Michael Sternbeck of Saint Bede Studios. It has been reported that he was so delighted with them, he expressed a wish to take them back to the Vatican..."

And indeed the entire set of vestments - chasuble, dalmatic and mitre, together with the three dalmatics for the deacons - are packed, ready to go to Rome.

I became a little weak-kneed when the Papal Masters of Ceremonies gave me this news after the Mass!

That Saturday morning Mass was a thoroughly inspiring occasion in all respects (even though I am not a devotee of the newly-consecrated altar).
